Program REGEN

With the program REGEN continuous precipitation recordings of many years are evaluated and groups of model rains or heavy rain series are produced. For the hydraulic computation, they are provided in the program HYKAS.

Group of rain models

Screen - shots

The list of the single rain of various precipitation processes makes a group of model rain as in DWA- the papers A 118, appendix 2, described as method of Otter/Koeniger. In addition, the program REGEN considers the defaults of the ATV paper A 121 (12/1985).

Model groups and Euler II – Rain-model

As per the guideline of the storm water network, Euler (Type II) is used. The maximum intensities Euler-model rains are to be observed however long rains persisting independently of the rain duration and in particular with unrealistically highly and very rarely. In addition it is to be noted that in large catchment areas (long time of concentration) critical discharge conditions are caused both by short heavy rain, and by long persisting rains. Due to these circumstances the proof is recommended by sewer systems with groups of model rains.

Model groups- Particular case Bayern

In Bayern, in the preparation of model rain groups, a State Office for Water Resources (LfW) table published a rain single model for the application. It is accepted that the rain process for different locations is identical to Bayern. The Program REGEN can tabulate (in Excel) the single model of the rainfall levels within a rain duration of 15 to 720 minutes directly. You can find the table here Collection of documents of the Bayern State Office for Water Resources(Slg LfW) under the number 4.3/3.

Heavy rain series

For the production of the heavy rain series, REGEN follows the appendix A3 of DWA-A 118 (03/2006), procedures described by FUCHS. Heavy rain series contain the past registered heavy rain events (up to 100 years) in their actual process. It is presumed that their past occurrences taking into account for the statistical evaluation are able to represent for the future precipitation occurrences as well. (Remarks from DWA-A 118).

Precipitation recording formats

The program REGEN processes the precipitation recording formats NTAPE, MD-Format as well as the format Sasum used in Switzerland. In Baden-Württemberg the precipitation series for any location can be obtained from State Institute of Environmental Protection, Karlsruhe. Nationwide, rain records can be found from German Weather Service (DWD).

REGEN can be run only when one of the programs HYKAS, GraPS or LU-NA are installed. It can be opened directly or through the appropriate menu programs HYKAS or LU-NA.

Application limitations

The Program REGEN processes precipitation data of maximum 50 years at a time. The number of produced relevant events depends however on the recording duration and the frequency, which can be proven. The program REGEN does not contain own file management. It uses only projects produced by the programs HYKAS or GraPS.

Data exchange

The program REGEN sets the identified rain series as well as the groups of model rains directly in the Rehm project database (including the sewage network data) .

To use this program, Microsoft Excel is to be necessarily installed. The analysis is done exclusively on MS Excel 2000 (9.x), 2002 (XP, 10.x) and 2003 (11.x).
