General drainage planning

A GDP is usually understood as a special form of planning services for drainage systems. According to DWA leaflet 101 "Planning of drainage systems", the GDP contains initial general statements on the implementation of planning intentions. Its objectives are similar to those of a development plan.

Questions need to be clarified as to how far planned construction projects (development of new construction areas) will burden the existing sewer network. Hydraulic and structural grievances must also be investigated and strategies developed to remedy them.

While in the past the drainage of the area to be replanned was investigated almost exclusively with regard to its technical feasibility, the general drainage planning today includes water protection and preventive flood protection.

The GDP mainly comprises

  • Construction of a digital sewage register (canals and special structures)
  • Determination of the hydraulic rehabilitation requirement in the sewers by means of a hydrodynamic sewer network calculation.
  • Determination of the structural renovation requirements in the sewers by means of a visual inspection/TV inspection/condition assessment
  • Investigation of mixed and stormwater treatment, if necessary by dirt load calculation.
